This week, Roy decided that with Easter rapidly approaching, he would like to create a card to give to some of his nearest and dearest. He didn’t want to create a normal card though – it had to be special and different. He went to his folder of old ideas and found an old Thaumatrope with an Easter Design. He wondered if he could use this idea to make a card, and was very pleased with the results indeed. So this week, Roy Creates An Amazing Easter Thaumatrope Card!
You Will Need:
- A printed copy of the template (click on the image above, and print it out)
- Coloured pencils or textas
- Scissors
- Glue
- Thick cardboard
- Wood and a wool needle
Method:
- Start by colouring in the designs for the thaumatrope. Roy made the egg shell into an Easter egg, but left the chicken as just a yellow chick.
- Write a simple message on the two sides of the card. Roy’s says ‘Happy Easter’ on one side and ‘Grandma’ on the other
- Carefully cut out the two circles
- Glue one circle onto the cardboard
- Carefully cut the cardboard to fit the circle you glued in place
- Glue the second image onto the other side (make sure the images both face the same way up if you flip the circle horizontally – it’s important to make your thaumatrope work)
- Now use some wool, threaded on a wool needle, to make strings on the side. You want to have the wool threaded through two holes on each side and tied together at the end.
- Wind the string up (twist the cardboard circle around until the string is all wound up) and then pull the strings taught. Watch the circle spin and make your two images into one!
