This week, Roy decided he would like to follow on from the item post, and use the corks for some sort of craft project. The question was, what exactly to do with them. Many people use corks for making little characters, but I suggested we employ their ability to float, and make a boat, especially since there is plenty of water around after the rain! Roy found the boat is easy to make, but lots of fun to play with. So this week, Roy Creates A Fun, Floating Cork Boat.
You Will Need:
- Corks - Roy used 2 for his boat, but you could make a bigger boat with more corks.
- Rubber bands - Roy needed 2 to secure his corks properly, but if you make a bigger boat, you may need more
- A toothpick
- Paper or cardboard
- Scissors
- Glue
Method:
- Start by making the sail for your boat. To do this, fold the paper in half and then cut out a small triangle, about the height of your toothpick. By cutting the triangle away from the fold, you will have 2 identical triangles, which fold on top of one another.
- Place the toothpick along the fold line, with about 2 centimetres sticking out the bottom. Glue the sail shut to hold the toothpick in place.
- Allow the sail to dry.
- When the sail is dry, if you like, you can decorate it!
- Next, use the rubber bands to hold the corks together, as Roy has done above.
- Finally, use the point of the toothpick to press the sail into one of the corks, close to the centre of the boat.
- Now see if your boat floats!
