This week, Roy decided he had a hankering for pizza. He loves making his own pizzas and customising the toppings as he likes, but he prefers a thin crust so usually finds he is best to make his own. He loves pizza toppings, but the dough can be a bit heavy, and with a thin crust, he doesn't feel so guilty. He didn’t have long enough before dinner to let a proper pizza dough prove though, so he used his ultra speedy dough instead. Then, it occurred to him, perhaps other people were caught without enough time to make their own dough, and would like to know his recipe. So this week, Roy Creates Deliciously Easy, Speedy 'Pizza Dough'.
You Will Need:
- 1 and ¾ cups of plain flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- ¾ of a teaspoon of cooking salt
- ½ a cup of water
- 1/3 of a cup of olive oil (plus extra for greasing the trays)
- Pizza toppings of your choice
Method:
- Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add a little of the oil and water.
- Stir with a wooden spoon and continue adding more water and oil (in proportion) until the dough comes together
- Knead the dough gently to make it smooth and elastic
- Divide the dough into 4 pieces
- Oil a tray (Roy finds that, because he has very thin crusts, he needs to use a pizza tray on top of a pizza stone. This also means the stone stays scorching hot for the next pizza)
- Roll out the dough, 1 piece at a time, on a piece of baking paper, making it very thin. Try to roll it into a vaguely circular shape!
- Pick the piece of baking paper up and use it to place the dough onto the tray.
- Gently pull the dough into a circle and flatten any thicker pieces
- Top with pizza toppings of your choice. This is a very, very thin base so don’t overdo the toppings!
- Bake until the base is crisp and the toppings are done (8 to 10 minutes, or more depending on your toppings). Roy actually bakes his in the barbeque as he can get the temperatures higher.
- Slide off the tray and enjoy.
- Repeat with the remaining dough.
