This week, Roy wanted to make something a little special for all of his friends who are heading back to school. He knows that sometimes they don’t look forward to the start of the term, and look forward to getting home for a cool drink and afternoon snack. He thought something which they could enjoy as a refreshing drink when they arrived home would be perfect so he flicked through our old cookbooks until he found the perfect thing – Sherbet. This powder which fizzes and flavours water seemed ideal, and he thinks it is actually very similar to a lot of fluid replacement drinks, so perfect for a really hot day. So this week, Roy Creates A Shockingly Scrumptious Sherbet Drink.
You Will Need:
- 250 grams of pure icing sugar
- 125 grams of tartaric acid
- 125 grams of bicarbonate of soda
- ½ a teaspoon of lemon essence
Method:
- Put the icing sugar into a bowl and stir through the essence. Allow the sugar to completely dry
- Mix in the tartaric acid and bicarbonate of soda
- Sift the mix through a fine sieve to remove any lumps
- Store in a clean, dry airtight jar to stop it going sticky and loosing it’s fizzy abilities
- Add 1 teaspoon to a cup of water (or more, or less depending on your taste), stir and enjoy.
Note: You could use other essences you liked in this sherbet mix, though Roy recommends sticking to citrus flavours – just make sure the sugar dries again before you add the other ingredients.
