This week, it was rather wet and rainy outside and Roy wanted a fun, indoor activity to keep him entertained. Some of the children he knows have been enjoying using commercially made scratch paper, where you scratch the black coating off to reveal the colourful surface underneath and Roy remembered seeing a homemade version of it in one of his old craft books. With a little trial and error, he was able to make a great picture and wanted to share the activity. So this week, Roy Creates Crazy Crayon Scratch Paper.
You Will Need:
- Crayons. You will need some brightly coloured crayons, for the bottom layer and a big black crayon for the top layer
- Thick white paper
- A teaspoon. You will use the back to scratch the black crayon off in places to reveal the colourful layer beneath
- An old magazine or newspaper to cover the table
Method:
- Lay out the newspaper or magazine on the table and put the white paper on top
- Cover the paper with a thick layer of colourful crayon. You need to cover the whole of the paper. Roy just coloured random patterns
- Cover this crayon layer with a thick layer of black crayon.
- Use the back of the teaspoon to draw a picture through the black crayon layer. You will scrape off the black layer to reveal the colours beneath
- This is a great way to make an interesting card for a Birthday present!
