This week, when Roy was going for a walk he noticed all the beautiful blossom trees in full bloom, especially the Crab Apples. Roy loves Spring, and the flowers and blossom trees which burst into life and wished he could bring a touch of the season inside. When he picks flowers though, they don't last and so he thinks they are better in the garden. Then, he found a stick in the garden which looked just like a miniature tree and thought it might be the base for a new craft activity. He had a couple of tries at making blossoms to stick on the tree and decided that tiny, wool blossoms looked fantastic. So this week, Roy Creates A Colourful, Woolly Blossom Tree.
You Will Need:
- Wool. Roy used different colours of pink, ranging from a very pale through to quite dark (inspired by the Crab Apples he saw), but you could use whatever colours you liked
- A stick which looks like a miniature tree (or two or three sticks bunched together). Make sure it has fallen off the tree on its own because then it will be nicely dry.
- Scissors
Method:
- First, make your blossoms. To do this hold two fingers about a centimetre apart and wrap wool around and around. Roy found that wrapping the wool around 10 times was just right for his blossoms. Cut the wool off when you have wound enough times.
- Now, cut another length of the same colour wool (you need it to be long enough to also tie the blossom to the tree) and slip it between your fingers. Gently pull the wool off your fingers and tie the loops tightly in the middle (Roy used a double knot)
- Cut through the loops so that you have individual 'petals'
- Leave the long pieces where you tied the blossom in the middle - you will use these to attach your blossom to your branches
- Make lots of blossoms (Roy made about 4 dozen)
- Tie the blossoms onto the stick you collected as Roy is doing in the photo
- Trim the long ends where you tied the blossoms onto the tree.
- Enjoy your blossom tree.
- If you like, you can put your branch into a pot filled with soil or sand, or just stand it in a vase
