Recently, the children Roy knows have been asking him for several old fashioned recipes, including Chocolate Caramel Slice. Roy had thought chocolate caramel slice was something which there were lots of recipes for, so decided not to write it up. However, when he was looking at the recipes available now, he noticed they all boiled the caramel. Now, Roy's Grandma never boils her caramel, but her slice turns out perfectly everytime. Roy thinks hot caramel is dangerous for children, so decided to share his Grandma's recipe after all. So this week, Roy Creates Easy, No Boil, Chocolate Caramel Slice.
You Will Need:
- 1 cup of plain flour
- 1 cup of coconut
- 1/2 a cup of brown sugar
- 125 grams of margarine, melted
- 1 tin of condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons of golden syrup
- 1 tablespoon of soft butter or margarine
- 125 grams of chocolate. As usual, Roy used dark, but you can use milk chocolate if you prefer.
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a slice tin.
- Mix together the coconut, brown sugar and flour in a bowl.
- Pour over the melted butter and mix thoroughly.
- Press into the slice tin and bake until it has browned (about 15 minutes)
- While the base is cooking, pour the condensed milk, golden syrup and butter into a bowl and beat thoroughly. You want the mixture to combine.
- Pour the caramel mix over the hot base and spread out into an even layer
- Bake the slice for another 10 to 15 minutes. You want the caramel to bubble and set.
- Put the slice aside to cool completely.
- When the slice is cold, carefully melt the chocolate and spread over the base. You need to do this quickly, or the chocolate will cool too much to spread.
- Use a hot, sharp knife to cut the slice into pieces and enjoy!
