This week, Roy decided it was time to get into the spirit of the season. It's not only winter in Australia, it is also the 'Christmas in July' season, and Roy thinks this is a perfect time to do something wintery. The question is, what? There are many crafts and cooking activities which are based on winter as a theme, but Roy wanted something quick but really special. Then, he was sitting gazing out the window when he noticed the snowglobe on the windowsill. He remembered me telling him that I made my own snowglobes as a little girl with his grandma and thought this would be a perfect thing to teach his friends to do. So this week Roy Creates A Snowglobe.
You Will Need:
- A clear jar with a tightly sealing lid. Roy used a glass jar. If you want to keep the snowglobe you will need a jar with a plastic lid or the vinegar will eventually start eating the metal lid.
- A lump of bluetac.
- Something to create your 'scene' with. You might use plastic toy animals, but Roy decided to go with a Christmas theme and used a little plastic Christmas tree and a reindeer.
- White vinegar
- Dessicated coconut
Method:
- Make sure the jar is clean.
- Turn the lid upside down and stick the lump of bluetac firmly to the inside of the lid.
- Now, press the plastic toys you want to use into the bluetac to stick your scene in place on the lid. You want it to sit above the level of the lid.
- Turn the lid up the right way and gently shake to make sure your scene is well attached.
- Fill the jar with white vinegar. Leave a small space at the top as the level of the vinegar will rise when you put your scene in.
- Add a couple of teaspoons of coconut. You could also add a little glitter if you want to.
- Carefully put the lid back on the bottle, with the scene hanging down. Fit the lid on as tightly as you can.
- Gently shake your snowglobe and let it snow!
