This week, Roy decided that with the weather cooling down so much, it was approaching the time when he wouldn't be able to find lots of lovely flowers to bring inside and brighten up the house. He was disappointed by this as he really loves flowers, but then he was looking out the window and saw the Autumn trees in full colour. If only there was a way to make Autumn leaves into flowers. Being such a crafty fellow, Roy decided to give making flowers out of Autumn leaves a go so he bought big bunches of fresh leaves inside and set about creating. When he had finished he had found a way to create beautiful roses full of all the colours of Autumn. So this week Roy Creates Autumn Leaf Roses.
You will need:
- Lots of fresh Autumn leaves - they need to be as fresh as possible, as the softer and fresher the leaves are the easier they are to fold. Roy used leaves from a liquidamber, which are quite large, have five points and lots of pretty autumn colours!
- Scissors
- Cotton
- Ribbon
- A vase or two
Method:
- Start by taking a small Autumn leaf and folding the top three points towards the stem, as Roy has done above.
- Now, lay the leaf on the table and roll it into a cone, like Roy is doing. This will be the centre of your rose.
- Now, take a middle sized leaf and hold it against the centre of the back of your rose. You want the stems to be in about the same place.
- Fold the middle point back on itself, towards the bottom of the leaf and then do the same with the two points on either side of it.
- Fold the two bottom points round the front of the flower and hold them with your fingers.
- Now take a big leaf and fold it just like you folded the middle sized leaf.
- Make any adjustments to the rose you want to make, like adjusting petals and then tie the petals into place with a piece of cotton around the bottom of the rose.
- Make as many roses as you like to fill your vases. Roy tied a pretty piece of ribbon around one rose and a leaf and used this to fill a bud base, and then made a big bunch which he surrounded with other Autumn leaves and put this into an old Ginger jar. Remember, you don't need to give them any water. Eventually they will dry, and lose their colour, but they still look lovely in a vase and are a great way to keep flowers inside as the flowers in the garden disappear.
