Recently, Roy has been doing a lot of cooking with his friends, and has started to gather a great collection of recipes. Yet, he didn't have his own cookbook to store all these yummy recipes in - until now! He was looking through a box of old books which belonged to his Great Grandmother when he found a lovely cookbook cover which his Grandma tells him belonged to his Grandpa's Grandma! He decided he would like to make his own version, and share it with his friends so that he, and they, can have somewhere to store all their recipes. So this week, Roy Creates A Cookbook Cover.
- An exercise book or spirex notebook. You could also use a loose leaf binder and stick the picture to the front.
- The pattern sheet (Download Cookbook Cover Pattern)
- A pair of scissors
- Sticky tape
- Coloured pencils, pens or paint
- A black felt-tip pen
- Clear contact or plastic to protect your finished book
Optional: A big piece of paper to cover your book under the picture.
Method:
- Print out the pattern sheet and colour the image as you like.
- Add your name to the sheet where there is a space
- Outline everything in black, so that it stands out really well.
- If you want, you can cover the exercise book with the big piece of paper. You might need an adults help with this.
- Stick your picture onto the front of your book. Roy did this by cutting the sheet of paper with the picture on it to be slightly bigger than the front of the book, then folding the edges under the cover and stickytaping them down, like you would do if you were covering a school book.
- Cover your book in plastic or contact to protect it from stains and spills in the kitchen. Roy used clear plastic. Remember to leave room for the spine. It is actually easier to cover a simple exercise book than a spiral bound one but you might still need an adults help. Mum's are often very experienced book coverers!
- Enjoy storing your recipes in your new cookbook! You could even make one for a friend and give them your favourite recipe in it.
