This week, with Fathers Day only a few days away, Roy wanted to make something which people could give their Dads (or Grandpa's in his case). He thought about giving you a recipe for something to cook Dad, but then decided he had already given lots of fantastic recipes like cordial and biscuits. If you would like to see some of them, visit the Roy Creates -Cooking section. Then, he remembered seeing an article about fingerprint art in one of my old 1970s magazines and decided this would be a perfect craft to show you. Roy decided to make a card, but you can use the same designs for a small gift tag, wrapping paper or even to decorate a box!
- A stamp pad or slightly watery paint, tipped onto a sponge. Roy used a multicoloured stamp pad, but a single colour one looks just as good
- Pens or pencils
- A piece of white cardboard, folded in half, or a blank card. You could even make a matching card and gift wrap set!
- Clean, dry hands.
- A tissue or paper towel
- Soap and water to clean up afterwards.
Method:
- Choose a design or two from the pictures below. Roy likes the bugs and plants, so he decided to make up a design using some of these, but you can pick whatever you want to do. Perhaps even try making your own designs!
- Some designs use thumb prints, some use finger prints or even just fingertip prints and some use a combination- make sure you check first!
- Press your finger or thumb to the stamp pad or sponge
- Press your inky finger/thumb to the paper you are using. Be careful not to move your finger when you have pressed it to the paper - you don't want to smudge it!
- Lift your finger/thumb up carefully, again trying not to smudge.
- Repeat this until you have the right number of finger/thumb prints for your design.
- Use the pens or pencils to draw in the other details of the design. Roy thinks a black pen works really well, but you could use whatever type of pen you want.
- Now, if you like you can add some scenery etc to the design.
