Roaming Roy Finds A Place To Lift Off - Anderson Park Neutral Bay

This week, with all the rain and wind around, Roy decided he wanted to hide out at home. He really doesn't like water, and he told me he was sure that there were a few places which he had visited which had 'slipped under the radar' and not been written up. I wasn't so sure, but thought it couldn't hurt to double check so, we searched through the archives of photographs to see what we could find and indeed, Roy was right! Some months ago we visited Anderson Park in North Sydney's Neutral Bay for a picnic with Roy's uncle and were surprised to find out it had a fascinating past, so this week we want to share it's story with you. 

Roy Creates Apple People - Part 1 Making The Heads

About a month ago, Roy and I discovered we had a few apples which were all bruised and soft - not really good for eating at all. Never one to like wasting food, Roy wanted to know if there was anything we could make with them. I remembered when I was very small that my Mother and I used to make dolls out of apples, so Roy and I consulted his Grandma so that she could refresh my memory on apple doll making. Now, Roy and I are ready to teach you!

They're Very Weird - Chokos

Imagine, it's the Great Depression. Food is expensive and so your family grow what they can and try to pad out every meal. One thing that grows very well and which seems to always have fruit is the choko vine growing over the outdoor toilet. You have to admit you're getting rather sick of them - you've had them in soup, in stew, boiled, baked, made into chips, made into chutney and pickles, even used in fruit pies. They seem to have become part of every meal. You're looking forward to a time when apple pie actually only has apples in it! You may be sick of them, but you know they're important, they've kept the family going.
