Earlier this week, the Tingle Factor Item was an unusual autograph book called 'The Ghosts Of My Friends'. To see the post, click here. Roy loved the idea of creating weird and wonderful creatures out of names and words so much that he decided that it would be the perfect way of creating a interesting, simple and unique card for his Grandma to give her on Mothers Day. He was so impressed with the cards he created that he decided to also show all of his friends how to create their own ghostly cards!
You Will Need:
- A feather or stick (you could also use a small paintbrush)
- Scissors or a craft knife
- Ink or very watery paint
- Paper. Non-glossy paper like construction paper or art paper works best.
- You will also need a paintbrush and a little water.
Before we start, I thought it was important to let you all know that this craft can be a little bit messy. Roy is lucky because the table he uses for craft is an old 'family heirloom' with a laminated top which doesn't absorb the stains so it wipes clean easily. Most tables won't do this, so lay down some newspaper or plastic, or even do this activity outside. Better to be safe than sorry!
- Cut your feather or stick into a point to write with. You will probably need an adult to help you with this. If you are using a feather, just chop the end off at a slight angle (you want a thick point so you aren't making a quill). If you use a stick, cut it down so the point is only about 4 or 5 millimetres across and 2 or 3 thick. Look at Roys pictures if you need some help.
- Fold your paper in half to make a card.
- Fold the front half of your card in half again, then unfold.
If you are using art or construction paper:
- Dip your feather or stick into your ink or watery paint and write a short message or name, along the fold line. You will need to be quick or the ink will dry too fast!
- Fold the front of the card in half again and squish the ink or paint together, like you are making a butterfly painting.
- Unfold your picture and have a look at the creature which you made!
If you are using glossy paper:
- Wet your paintbrush and then wipe it against the side of the glass until it is almost dry.
- Use the paintbrush to dampen your paper slightly, above one side of the fold line
- Dip your feather or stick into your ink or watery paint and write a short message or name on the dry side of the fold line.
- Fold the front of the card in half again and squish the ink or paint together, like you are making a butterfly painting.
- Unfold your picture and have a look at the creature which you made!
- Now write inside your card for Mum or Grandma (like Roy!)
