This week, with the anniversary of the Japanese submarine attack on Sydney Harbour so close, Roy decided it was time to take his online friends somewhere related to submarines in Sydney. There were a few choices, the place where the torpedoes hit, the tunnel at Luna Park people hid in during the attack, but one stood out above the others, the anti-submarine net which stretched across Sydney Harbour.

This week, Roy decided that he really wanted to go bushwalking. Roy loves to go for a good long walk, particularly if there is the promise of good views, beautiful scenery and peace and quiet. One of the places which he loves to walk in is Barrington Tops National Park, and he really wanted to take a wander through the majestic scenery in this area. He was very disappointed when I told him it was too far away to go for a single day! He decided instead that he would go for a walk down memory lane and look at some of the photos we took when we were last there, and decided to share them with you. Roy has visited several other places in the area, and if you would like to see his entries about them, click here.

This week, Roy decided he wanted to visit somewhere quiet, somewhere breathtakingly beautiful and somewhere which retains its old world charm. He loves visiting these sorts of places, and is always fascinated to discover the stories behind them, and behind their names. Govetts Leap in the Blue Mountains of NSW is one such place. He thinks it is one of the most beautiful places in the Mountains, with a stunning view, but without the crowds you find at lookouts like Echo Point.

This week, Roy decided that with such lovely mild days, and beautiful Autumn sunshine, it was the perfect time to have a nice, outdoor lunch in a beautiful place. One of the things which Roy most loves when he is out and about is trying new cafes, and getting ideas for his own cooking! He decided it was the perfect weather to go to the Blue Mountains and look over the World Heritage National Park, and wanted somewhere he could eat, pick up some tourist information and enjoy the view at the same time. Only one place would do, the Conservation Hut at Wentworth Falls. It is not only a great place for lunch, it's the perfect place to take overseas visitors. Roy strongly suggests you try the Quandong Icecream - yum!

This week, Roy decided he wanted to visit one of the places he knows about close to home, but which he had never visited. Although Roy loves to spend time in the great outdoors he, like so many others, doesn't always make the time to visit places in the local area, often going further afield. He had heard and read a lot about Crosslands Reserve, and had been told that it was a beautiful place, but he didn't remember ever visiting, so thought this would be a good time to change all that.

This week, with ANZAC Day just around the corner, Roy wanted to visit somewhere which would allow him to reflect on the people who have fought and died to protect our nation and our way of life. He knew it was the 70th anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign, and thought it would be nice to visit a memorial to these brave soldiers who worked and fought along the Kokoda Trail. The Kokoda Trail, a notorious track in Papua New Guinea, is the site of one of the most famous and bloodiest campaigns Australians were involved in during World War 2. Roy remembered seeing signs to a memorial in Concord, so went to investigate and was touched by what he found.

This week, with the weather turning cooler and people starting to think about travelling to the Blue Mountains to see the beautiful Autumn colour, Roy decided he would like to show you a little known place in the area, Caley's Repulse. Roy has been fascinated with the story of this mound of stones, and was surprised to discover when he visited that they are overgrown and forgotten, but thought this almost made them more fun to discover!

This week, with today being Easter Sunday, Roy thought he should visit somewhere which celebrated the day. He thought perhaps he should visit a Church, since Easter is one of the most important holidays in the Christian calendar, but there are so many Churches to choose from. He needed one which was really interesting for such an important day. Then, he remembered the Church in Berrima, St Francis Xavier, which he had been so taken with when he saw it. He thought this would be perfect.

Last week, Roy spent some time telling you about hsi visit to the Church where the famous Captain Thunderbolt may have been married. The children have been fascinated by the idea of Captain Thunderbolt, especially as one of his favourite areas was around Gloucester, where the fugitive Malcom Naden was recently captured. Roy promised to tell them more about the life of Thunderbolt this week, and thought he would also like to show a few more places associated with this famous bushranger.

This week, with the capture of the fugitive Malcom Naden not far from Gloucester, there has been a lot of talk about the Gloucester area and its history. Some of the news stations have commented that a very famous bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt was also known to use the area, and the children have been very interested to hear about this. They wanted to know who Thunderbolt was and what he did, but the news stations weren't going to tell them. They asked Roy if he knew anything, so he decided to tell you about our trip to Stroud, the place where Thunderbolt (may have been) married.
